Motivation—it’s a tricky thing, isn’t it? Some days it comes naturally, and other days it’s nowhere to be found. Recently, I had a realization about motivation that completely changed how I approach my fitness journey—and life in general.
The Importance of Motivation
For the longest time, I believed motivation was something I had to wait for. If I didn’t feel motivated, I’d let myself stay in bed, waiting for that spark to show up. But here’s the thing: motivation isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you can create.
The Turning Point
One day, I woke up feeling completely unmotivated. I had a workout planned and a diet to follow, but my body just wanted to stay in bed and binge-watch movies while eating junk food.
So that’s exactly what I did.
But instead of feeling happy or rested, I felt horrible. I looked back at the day and realized I’d wasted it. That’s when it hit me—I hadn’t gained anything from giving in to that feeling.
Then I thought about what I could’ve gained if I had just gotten up and worked out:
- Feeling 1% better than yesterday.
- A boost in energy and mental health.
- A sense of accomplishment that would set the tone for the rest of my day.
All of that could’ve been mine with just 1-2 hours of effort.
The Mindset Shift
Now, when I feel unmotivated, I think about the benefits of action versus inaction. Sure, staying in bed feels good in the moment. But skipping a workout only leads to guilt and regret. On the other hand, getting up and taking action always makes me feel amazing—even if it’s hard at first.
How to Create Motivation
Here’s my secret:
- Think about the long-term gains. Picture how you’ll feel an hour, a day, or even a year from now if you take action today.
- Remind yourself of the benefits. Exercise and productivity give you energy, improve your mood, and bring you closer to your goals.
- Start small. The hardest part is getting out of bed or taking that first step. Once you start, everything feels easier.
Motivation isn’t something you have to wait for—it’s something you can create. The next time you’re struggling to get moving, try shifting your mindset. Focus on what you’ll gain by taking action, and watch how your day transforms.
